Sustainability
Macdonald & Lawrence embraces the practice of creating structures that are environmentally responsible and resource efficient. We believe that the timber frame exemplifies sustainable building - allowing for the design of buildings that reduce the overall impact of the built environment on health and nature.
Timber frames exemplify sustainable building.
How we do this:
Local
We construct our frames using locally sourced timber whenever possible. In the past we have harvested standing fire salvaged Larch and in many cases we work with our clients to help them select the trees to harvest from their own woodlots.
Like Minds
We work with like minded suppliers, architects, designers and trades people who also believe in building a better, sustainable structure and incorporating renewable resources.
Expertise
We rely on the expertise of our designers and architects. These professionals pay keen attention to orientation of the building, utilization of local climate and site conditions with emphasis on natural light and ventilation.
We are also strong proponents for FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) timber which is harvested and managed in a sustainable fashion.
