Macdonald & Lawrence was thrilled to have the opportunity to be involved from the very early conceptual stages with the Garrett’s of Rockyview, Alberta. This project was a full timber frame structure, built completely from fire salvaged standing dead western Larch harvested from southern BC and northern Idaho. Upon complete raising, the building was enclosed completely with Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) for both the walls and roof.

Scope of Project

The project progressed from a simple sketch and list of desired characteristics to a solid conceptual plan and refined budget; it then moved onward to a full set of architectural plans including: site plan, footing and foundation plans, elevations, roof plan and floor plan. After the Architectural plans came the full structural engineering review and acceptance by the Rockyview Municipal District of Alberta was obtained. The project began in April of 2009 with the cutting and shipping of the timber to Alberta completing in September with the placement of the SIPs.
