One of our team recently spent several weeks at O.U.R. Ecovillage near Shawnigan Lake, providing instruction to participants of their natural building program. The coursework focused on timber frame construction using round logs (Yellow Cedar forestry waste). The students made a structural frame for an art studio building that will be completed with cob walls and a green (living) roof later this year.
Each summer O.U.R Ecovillage runs a 10 week internship program for students from around the globe to develop their natural building skills with hands on construction projects. The interns learn and experience cob construction, straw bale and cob finishing, natural plasters, earthen floors, stone foundations, woodworking and basic design skills. This year's programme was been led by Elke Cole with input from other instructors including our own Higgs Murphy.
