  • 21 June 2007

For over 10 years both Gord and Steve worked as senior project managers with the UK's leading timber frame company Carpenter Oak & Woodland Co Ltd (COWCo), where they led more than 100 successful new projects, and helped to conserve some of Britain's most precious architectural treasures including: Windsor Castle, Stirling Castle, Dolbelydr and many other important medieval buildings.

In 1999, Gord launched a new branch of business for COWCo in Scotland: opening The Framing Yard at Lintrathen. Over the next four years Gord, Steve and Steph grew this new business to a staff of 19, with annual sales over $1 million. The Framing Yard was responsible for some of COWCo's most exciting and innovative projects during that period, earning them a number of awards:

  • Commendation for Conservation / Restoration 2004, The Wood Awards, Worshipful Company of Carpenters
  • Regional Award 2002, Royal Institute of British Architecture (RIBA)
  • Civic Award 2002 for Excellence in Design & Construction, The Arbroath Improvement Trust
  • Most Innovative New Business Award, Angus County Council
  • Most Creative, Native & Innovative Building Award, Association for the Protection of Rural Scotland
  • Most Sustainable New Building 2002, Aberdeenshire County Council
  • Most Innovative New Building 2002, Aberdeenshire County Council
