Monday August 29th – the day the traditional aisle barn
frame arrived on the Bird’s Eye Cove site. Along with the truck that carried
her arrived came the partial crew of timber framers that would begin the task of raising the
frame.
For those who arrived today, it was the first time they have seen
the site which they will come and go from for the next several weeks. Not only
will they raise the frame, but this crew will be mostly responsible for closing
in the barn and making her pervious to the weather that the west coast will
through at her. Tradition is that there is a celebration following the raising
of the timber frame, for those who have been involved from the beginning of
this project, there was a thankfulness acknowledged, evident by the expressions on each and every person's face. An absolutely breath taking site, a warm and genuine family and an opportunity to for everyone to leave a bit to history.
Today the crew was busy sorting and laying out the bundles,
measuring and making final cuts in the length of the posts. Tomorrow, the firstday of raising, the crew will be joined by the other framers who cut and worked the timbers into the glorious structure.
Most of what should be said can be said in pictures and over the
next few weeks there will be many. Check back in often as the frame takes shape and is then is passed over to the family in a 'dedication ceremony'.
